Along with weekly practices and service ringing during term, the Guild's year consists of several more significant events, including outings, trips away, and dinners.

Guild Week

Freshers' Week and Squash

Events at the start of term usually include the regular ringing practices and a Freshers' Cycle Outing, but the highlight of the week is the Squash held after the practice on the Thursday or Friday at the end of term. Since the breathalyser has been lost the potential for quantitively- measured drinking competitions has reduced, but the event still remains an excellent way to meet the Guild for the first time.

The SUA Weekend

The Southern Universities Association weekend (and striking competition) occurs early during the Michaelmas term, and is attended by Universities all across the country (including some not strictly in the South!) The Guild has often taken part, whether ringing or supporting, and won last year. Will we able to hold on to the trophy?

London Outing

An outing in London takes place at the end of the Michaelmas term. There are many towers in the City and more just outside, and all within about an hour from Cambridge. The London Outing is often well-attended by Alumni of the University and is a good opportunity for students to meet the wider Guild community.

OUS Joint Outing

The Guild joints the Oxford University Society for an outing in the Lent term. The two societies take it in turns to organise the event which is a great opportunity to get to know ringers from the "other place".

Annual Dinner

The Guild Dinner is a social highlight in many calendars. This takes place on the last Saturday of the Lent Term in one of the colleges of the University. Celebrations (including ringing) last all weekend, but the dinner itself begins with a drinks reception at 19:00 before the meal at 19:30.

Annual General Meeting

The Guild's business is discussed at four meetings throughout the year - at the Michaelmas and Lent Business Meetings, a meeting during Guild Week, and the main AGM during the Easter term. Officers are elected at the AGM, and the Guild's accounts accepted.

Minutes and other documents associated with the business meetings are available from the downloads page.

Alternative Dinner

The Alternative Dinner is a more intimate dinner taking place during May Week, and is only open to Guild Members (and guests) resident in Cambridge.

Guild Week

Guild Week is the name given to the Guild's annual tour. The week of ringing, socialising and drinking remains popular. Further information is available via the links on the left, and some reports of past weeks can be found here along with some photographs.

The week usually takes place from Saturday-Saturday, finishing on the weekend of the August Bank Holiday.
