Cambridge University Guild of Change Ringers : Officers : Master

Officers - Master

Master - Catriona Shearer

The Master is basically responsible for running the Guild. This includes running service ringing and practices, organising peals and quarter peals, and also giving a speech at the annual dinner.

Name: Catriona Shearer

College: Jesus

Subject: Mathematics

Catriona was taught to ring in 2007 at St. Helen's in Abingdon, near Oxford, but sensibly realised that Cambridge was a far more appealing place to study and duly matriculated in 2008. The Guild learned early in her first term to ignore frequent protestations of only being able to ring Plain Bob and Catriona's repertoire has expanded rapidly ever since, although she still tries to grab the treble whenever possible.

Catriona (somewhat reluctantly) rang her first peal with the Guild in November 2009, but she much prefers quarter peals. Her enthusiastic organisation of weekly attempts at St. Bene't's while Assistant Master was a significant improvement on the lapses of previous years, and only slightly tempered by an apparently incurable desire to see them fire out in the final lead.

Despite early misgivings, Catriona has become a stalwart of the Guild social scene and is particularly fond of formals, to which her extensive crockery collection bears testament.
