Welcome to the CUGCR Website

The Cambridge University Guild of Change Ringers was formed in 1879 to practise the art of change ringing. Today we are an active student society who organise many ringing and social events throughout the year.

We ring at several churches within Cambridge, and welcome ringers of all abilities. To find out more about the Guild, explore this website, e-mail, or feel free to join us at one of our practices.

CUGCR welcomes new students

Posted 13th August 2015

Cambridge University Guild wishes all those receiving results today the very best of luck.

If you are going to be coming to study in Cambridge, the Guild runs a regular cycle of practices (Thursday and Friday nights), plus service ringing on Sundays. The termcard will have more details as we get closer to the start of term. In addition to this, we have several exciting events lined up – there will be a squash, a cycle tour near Cambridge and an outing to London. You can find the CUGCR at Kelsey Kerridge on Tuesday 6th / Wednesday 7th October.

The Guild aims to be a friendly and open society. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an experienced ringer or have never touched a rope before – all are equally welcome and we’d love to hear from you! If you have any questions about the Guild, or you just can’t wait until the Societies’ Fair to introduce yourself, feel free to get in touch with one of our officers! We look forward to welcoming you in October.

Paul K Williamson

Posted 29th April 2015

It is with regret that we report that Paul K Williamson died on 29th April, aged 89. He was Secretary of the Guild in 1944, and remained an regular participant at Guild events until recent years. He rang 177 peals for the Guild, including the Guild’s first on twelve, and two Trinity College peals.

His funeral will be at 1.30pm on 18th May at Ash Priors, Somerset where he lived. Ringing for the service will be by a pre-organised band, but there will be general ringing following the service and refreshments at Ash Priors Village Hall.
