Welcome to the CUGCR Website
The Cambridge University Guild of Change Ringers was formed in 1879 to practise the art of change ringing. Today we are an active student society who organise many ringing and social events throughout the year.
We ring at several churches within Cambridge, and welcome ringers of all abilities. To find out more about the Guild, explore this website, e-mail secretary@cugcr.org.uk, or feel free to join us at one of our practices.
Guild New Year
Posted 26th November
This year, Guild New Year will be hosted by Freddie, who lives somewhere near Shrewsbury. It will run from 29th December to 2nd January, and of course you’re welcome to turn up to as much as you want. It involves a couple of days of ringing at various towers and sampling the local beverages, ringing in the New Year and generally having fun! Let Freddie know, secretary@cugcr.org.uk, if you’re keen.

sua 13/11 – 15/11
Posted 26th October
We’ve received details of the Southern Universities Association striking competition. It will be held in Oxford, on the weekend of the 14th November. It would be good if lots of us went, email me if you’ve got any questions. The X5 is the best way to get there, there’s lots of cheap fares, including £1 tickets at www.megabus.com. More details are available at http://users.ox.ac.uk/~ouscr/new/termcard/sua.html.

There will be a handbell (with cheese and wine) evening on Tuesday 27th October, in the Master’s room, at 43 Newmarket Road. Email master@cugcr.org.uk for hopefully more precise directions, or see last week’s ‘This Week’ email.

Formal Hall at Jesus College
Posted 10th October
Tuesday 20th October
Formal swaps are one of the best reasons for joining a university-wide society and the Guild tends to organise a lot of them throughout the year, starting this year at Jesus. Tickets are £7.30, and you can bring a bottle of wine (/beer/soft drink) of your choosing, or buy one from the bar. Meet at the Porters’ Lodge at 7.15 in gown etc. Formals are probably one of the best Cambridge traditions so it’d be good to see lots of you there. If you’d like to come, please tell the Assistant Master by Thursday 15th so she can organise tickets.

welcome!
Posted 7th October
It was good to meet lots of people at the Freshers’ Fair! Guild ringing starts on Thursday 8th October with a practice at StAG followed by the Freshers’ Squash.
If you’ve rung before, it’d be great to see you at the practice, 19:30 – 21:00, and if you’re keen on finding out about ringing, turn up at StAG around 20:45. We’ll all then walk to the Squash together.
Hope to see you tomorrow!
