Welcome to the CUGCR Website

The Cambridge University Guild of Change Ringers was formed in 1879 to practise the art of change ringing. Today we are an active student society who organise many ringing and social events throughout the year.

We ring at several churches within Cambridge, and welcome ringers of all abilities. To find out more about the Guild, explore this website, e-mail secretary@cugcr.org.uk, or feel free to join us at one of our practices.

Guild Week 2014

Posted 15th November 2013

Rod Lebon is kindly organising Guild Week 2014 and many of you will know that it is to be held around Durham from Saturday 16th August to Friday 22nd August. Rather unfortunately the first plan for accommodation has fallen through, but luckily a back-up booking with Durham University (Grey College) remained, so that is now the primary plan. There is still the offer of camping with one of the Durham Cathedral ringers for those who would like it.

Durham University wish to have a contract for a certain number of rooms for a certain number of nights, which is not particularly compatible with the normal pattern for Guild Week. It may be that, as the University receives further bookings, a certain amount more flexibility will be allowed (as staffing costs can be shared to greater extent), however, that cannot be assumed. Rod therefore needs to get some idea of how many members will be attending a great deal earlier than is normally the case.

In no sense is this a binding commitment – Rod would like to get the best possible estimate of likely attendance as soon as possible. We would be grateful if members who think it likely that they will be coming on Guild Week 2014 to contact Rod either at guildweek@cugcr.org.uk or any other convenient means.
