Welcome to the CUGCR Website

The Cambridge University Guild of Change Ringers was formed in 1879 to practise the art of change ringing. Today we are an active student society who organise many ringing and social events throughout the year.

We ring at several churches within Cambridge, and welcome ringers of all abilities. To find out more about the Guild, explore this website, e-mail secretary@cugcr.org.uk, or feel free to join us at one of our practices.

I am very sorry indeed to have to inform Guild members that Stephen Nicholson (St John’s 1984) died yesterday morning (May 10th). He had been ill with a blood condition for some years but I do not know whether, or to what extent, this contributed to his death. I have no further details at present.

Guild Photo and Mere’s Commemoration Sermon

Posted 13th April 2012

The Guild Photo will be taken in Clare College Old Court on the morning of Tuesday 24 April immediately before ringing for Mere’s Commemoration Service at Bene’t's. The service is a University Sermon, ringing for which is required before and after, following which there is Madeira and seed-cake taken in the garden of Corpus Christi Master’s Lodge:

1030 Meet in Clare College Old Court
1100 Ringing at Bene’t's
1145 Sermon given by the Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, Lord Bishop of Coventry

Dress for the photograph is smart: men wear lounge suits without gowns or academic dress. Please be prompt as we cannot keep the photographer waiting.
Gowns are required for the Commemoration sermon and reception.
